    Biography

    Mr. Thomas E. Rieck graduated from The Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in International Politics, with Minors in Military Studies & French.  After completion of Penn State's Army ROTC Program in May 2006, he commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Infantry.

    Mr. Rieck’s first assignment was to Bravo Company, 4th Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 10th Mountain Division, where he served as a platoon leader during the unit’s deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from May 2007 to May 2008 in Iraq's "Triangle of Death."  He served as the 4-31 IN Assistant Operations Officer from May 2008 to October 2008 in support of the unit's mobilization to West Point's Cadet Summer Training.  After redeployment, Thomas assumed duties as the Executive Officer for the Heavy Weapons Company in D/4-31 IN until January 2009.

    At this time, Mr. Rieck was selected by the Battalion Commander to reconstitute and stand-up the battalion's Scout Reconnaissance Platoon, which had not existed for many years. He deployed with this platoon in support of the final Brigade Combat Team sent to Operation Iraqi Freedom in October 2009. In January 2010, he was assigned to 2nd BDE, 10th MTN DIV where he served as the Battle Captain in the brigade Tactical Operations Center, and later, as acting Night Chief of Operations. Upon redeployment in June 2010, Mr. Rieck served the remainder of his Army career as the Brigade Current Operations Officer until July 2011.
